Bremen Freimarkt 2025: 990 years of celebration with new rules and attractions!
The countdown has begun: On October 17th, the Bremen Freimarkt will open its doors for the 990th time. This year, visitors can look forward to almost 300 showmen who will offer a colorful mix of rides and stalls with goodies. The anticipation is great and the city is preparing for a spectacle that traditionally attracts large numbers of people. Buten and inland reports that the Freimarkt is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in a few eventful days.
The first visitors can explore the rides and stalls on opening day from 4 p.m. Regular opening hours Monday through Thursday are 1 p.m. to 11 p.m., while Friday and Saturday nights are busy until midnight. A highlight will be the opening fireworks display on October 17th at 9:45 p.m., which will amaze the crowd.
Ticket prices and free ticket regulations
An important point for many families will be the free ticket, which can be redeemed at the open market for the last time this year. From 2026, children and young people under 18 will no longer be able to use the free ticket at folk festivals. This causes criticism from the showmen in advance. Susanne Keuneke, chairwoman of the Bremen Association of Showmen and Market Merchants, complains about a “bad debate about envy” and calls for the regulation to be reviewed. While the Freimarkt 2025 will still serve as a venue for free ticket use, the changes will mean that many large folk festivals will be excluded in the future. Weser courier reports on the concerns of the showmen who are hoping for more support.
Visitors should be aware that prices at the open market are expected to increase. This isn't a huge surprise, as increased venue fees are forcing showmen to adjust their prices. Preparations are in full swing and the dispute over the new fees is also being fought out in court. For anyone who wants to travel by car, it is advisable to use alternative parking spaces at the university, as there is no space directly at the Freimarkt.
Safe arrival and festivities
To ensure maximum safety and a good feeling during the festival, awareness teams and security services will be on site to provide support should any unpleasant situations arise. Some prohibitions apply on the premises: weapons, glass bottles, fireworks and animals are not permitted to ensure everyone's safety. Instead, the organizers recommend traveling by public transport. The buses and trains to and from the Freimarkt offer a convenient solution.
The complete program of the free market and further information about all attractions can be found on freimarkt.de be read. Excitement and fun are definitely guaranteed! It goes without saying that the Freimarkt will traditionally be a very special experience for young and old this year that should not be missed.
