Solar power reduces electricity prices: millions saved for consumers!
The increasing use of solar energy brings a breath of fresh air into the energy markets and ensures falling electricity prices. A current study by the consulting firm Enervis on behalf of the German Solar Industry Association shows that the stock market price for electricity last year would have been a whopping 15 percent higher on average without the influence of solar energy. This development is not only noticeable on the market, but also in the wallets of consumers, who benefit from billions of dollars in savings every year.
The German Solar Industry Association emphasizes that producers of renewable energies such as photovoltaics play a key role in the price structure due to their low operating costs. Despite these positive developments, however, there are some concerns within the association. It is urgently warned that cuts in funding for solar systems could seriously endanger the expansion. In particular, Federal Minister of Economics Katherina Reiche (CDU) plans to no longer offer state funding for small solar systems in the future - a measure that has not yet been finally decided.
What does the future of solar energy look like?
Solar system operators can currently look forward to a guaranteed feed-in tariff of 20 years, which is paid per kilowatt hour. However, in order to continue to benefit from the price-reducing effect of these systems in the future, the expansion of photovoltaics must progress along the legally defined target path. Carsten Körnig, General Manager of the Solar Association, emphasizes that reliable framework conditions are essential for this.
Amid these discussions about renewable energies, there is also political activity across the Atlantic that promises exciting developments. Randy Feenstra, the US Representative for Iowa's fourth district, officially launched his campaign for governor of Iowa on October 28, 2025. Feenstra, a Republican, aims to take “Iowa to new heights” and plans to work closely with President Trump to advance the America First agenda.
Tensions in the political arena
The political waves are also rising within the Republicans. Feenstra isn't the only candidate seeking the GOP nomination. His running mates include state Rep. Eddie Andrews, former state Rep. Brad Sherman and former Iowa Department of Administrative Services director Adam Steen. Even State Senator Michael Bousselot is considering running as a candidate.
Feenstra is drawing attention in his campaign primarily for his work on tax relief, which he touts as part of the “One Big Beautiful Bill.” However, Democrats have accused this bill of cutting money for food aid and Medicaid.
Support and criticism of Feenstra are also evident in the political arena. His rivals, such as State Auditor Rob Sand, are critical of him, and it is clear that the upcoming election campaigns could become heated. In summary, it is clear that while there are positive developments for solar energy on the energy market side, there are also dynamic changes in the political area that could cause tension.
