Construction site chaos in Schleswig-Holstein: That's how long drivers have to wait!

Today, June 28, 2025, the traffic conditions in Schleswig-Holstein are dominated by numerous construction sites and diversions. The current overview is filled with information about construction sites that affect motorways as well as federal and country roads. The total length of the road network in Schleswig-Holstein extends over an impressive 9,874.557 kilometers, and some of these routes are currently severely affected by construction work and closures. As kn-online.de reports, the A1, A21 and A23 motorways are particularly important.

The A1 is currently particularly affected. Between Eutin and Scharbeutz, road users are confronted with a traffic realignment that is expected to last until the end of 2025. Two-lane traffic will also be maintained at the Bargteheide motorway junction until December 2025 due to extensive construction work. There are also road renovations underway between Sereetz and Pansdorf, which are expected to last until the end of the year.

Current construction sites and their effects

On the A21, drivers have to accept that the Klein Barkau Ost junction in the direction of Kiel will be closed until August 2025. In addition, work will be carried out on renewing the road on both sides between Leezen and Bad Oldesloe-Nord until December 2026. Numerous closures are planned on the A23 between Pinneberg-Nord and Halstenbek/Rellingen until the end of July 2025, while the Heide-West entrance and exit towards Hamburg will remain closed until July 25th.

The significant expansion of construction sites on all traffic routes also has an impact on road conditions. In fact, according to verkehrslage.de, there are currently no reports of danger types on construction sites. This means that the risk of slipping – for example due to black ice – and obstructions to visibility are pushed into the background in the short term, even if there are still classic risks of traffic jams.

Traffic statistics and mobility data

Mobility data is extremely important for understanding traffic patterns and making targeted investments in infrastructure. According to forschungsinformationssystem.de, such data supports the development of new vehicles and logistics concepts. Traffic surveys are therefore not only interesting for authorities, but also for the public. They offer a valuable source of information about everyday mobility and emissions.

The surveys are not limited to a one-off survey: there are separate statistical surveys that are carried out annually to provide a comprehensive picture of traffic flows. This important data is published by the Federal Ministry of Transport in the publication “Traffic in Numbers” and has a tradition going back over 50 years.

Given the confusing construction situation, it is advisable for road users to regularly check the current traffic data. This is the best way to avoid traffic jams and other inconveniences.
