Boy Gobert Prize 2025 goes to Hamburg actor Payam Yazdani!
Payam Yazdani, a rising star in the theater sky, has made it - he is the winner of the Boy Gobert Prize 2025. This award, which has been given by the Körber Foundation for over 40 years, honors the best young players and comes with prize money of 10,000 euros. Yazdani, who was born in Hamburg in 1994 and grew up there, is celebrated for his versatile and committed performance on stage. The jury particularly praised his clear portrayal and the credibility of his roles, which makes him an outstanding figure in the current theater landscape.
Yazdani started his acting career at the Junges Schauspielhaus Hamburg, where he played the lead role in inspiring productions such as “Krabat”. He can currently be seen in “Out of Nothing”, a stage adaptation of Fatih Akin's film, which deals with the topic of the NSU murders. Director Klaus Schumacher has impressively adapted this important story for the theater. He has also appeared in other plays such as “Bambi: An Expedition into the Forest”.
The awards ceremony
The award ceremony will take place on December 7, 2025 at 11 a.m. in the Thalia Theater. Eva Nemela from the Körber Foundation will present Yazdani with the award. This event will not only be accompanied by the media partners NDR 90.3 and Hamburg Journal, but will also support a good cause. Proceeds from the award ceremony will go to the “The Donated Space” initiative, which helps to make it easier for children and young people who cannot afford tickets to have access to theater performances.
Yazdani earned his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and a Master of Science in Marketing before his passion for acting took hold. Despite his success in business administration, it was the reputation of the stage that ultimately led him to study acting at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and to his engagement in Hamburg.
The Boy Gobert Prize: A Tradition of Support
The Boy Gobert Prize has been awarded since 1981 and has produced numerous talents over the past few decades. Previous award winners such as Ulrich Tukur, Martin Wuttke and Julia Riedler have had a lasting impact on the theater landscape. The award is named after Boy Gobert, an influential theater maker, and aims to encourage the next generation of actors.
Yazdani, who is also known from the series “The Discounters”, currently commutes between Hamburg, where he is a member of the ensemble at the Junges Schauspielhaus, and Bochum, where he will soon be taking on engagements. With the fourth season of “The Discounters,” which starts today, he will continue to make a name for himself on television.
It's great what's happening in the theater world! We look forward to Payam Yazdani's next steps and are excited to see how he continues his path as an actor.
