Dramatic draw! HSV Hamburg gives away a home win against Lemgo
Last Sunday, an exciting match between HSV Hamburg and TBV Lemgo took place in the Handball Bundesliga, which took the fans on an emotional rollercoaster ride. The final score of 35:35, after a temporary lead of six goals, shows once again how unpredictable and exciting this sport can be. Hamburg played well in the first half and led 16:12 at the break. Moritz Sauter was the outstanding player, scoring 13 goals for his team. Despite their good performances in the first half, Hamburg were ultimately unable to secure their second home win of the season, which annoyed coach Torsten Jansen.
The game started promisingly for HSV: after just eight minutes the team was already leading 5-2. But TBV Lemgo soon turned things around when they took the lead in the 19th minute. Mohamed El-Tayar, the Egyptian national goalkeeper from Hamburg, showed an impressive save rate of 42% in the first half. Nevertheless, it remained exciting until the end, when several leadership changes took place in a dramatic final phase. Casper Mortensen finally had the opportunity to decide the game for HSV Hamburg, but failed with a seven-meter shot 17 seconds before the end. Lukas Hutecek equalized for Lemgo in the last second.
New faces in the team
For the coming season, HSV Hamburg has taken a strategic step by signing Mohamed El-Tayar. The goalkeeper moved to Hamburg after HBW Balingen-Weilstetten was relegated and signed a two-year contract. After his time at SC DHfK Leipzig and his move to Balingen, this is his third stop in the Bundesliga. The 28-year-old is already optimistic about the new challenge and emphasizes the positive atmosphere and his colleagues in Hamburg. Together with Johannes Bitter and Robin Haug he will form a strong goalkeeper trio, while long-time goalkeeper Jens Vortmann ends his career and Alexander Pinski moves to TSV Ellerbek.
El-Tayar excelled last season with 295 saves and an overall save percentage of 30.16%, ranking second among all goalkeepers in the league. His best appearance was on matchday 22 against HSG Wetzlar, where he made 22 saves.
The best in the league
The Handball Bundesliga has produced some outstanding goalscorers throughout its history. The Dane Hans Lindberg currently leads the list of the most successful goalscorers with 3,011 goals. Many of these players have had impressive careers over the years and have left big shoes for young talent to successfully follow. The Austrian Robert Weber, for example, is one of the top goalscorers with 2,510 goals.
The exciting games and the upcoming talent make the Bundesliga unpredictable and always exciting, not only for the fans, but also for the players. Sauter, El-Tayar and Co. are now faced with the task of wresting something positive from the previous draws in the table and arming themselves for the coming games in order to achieve their desired goals.
