USC Münster celebrates a convincing home win against Hamburg 3-0!
An exciting volleyball weekend for USC Münster! On October 26, 2025, the team celebrated a confident 3-0 win against ETV Hamburger Volksbank Volleys in the Berg Fidel hall at home. Over 1,700 spectators came to witness the spectacle. However, the first set was anything but easy: Hamburg temporarily led 24:23, but Münster managed to turn things around and ultimately won 26:24. USC clearly dominated the second set that followed with 25:15, and the third set continued in a similar manner with a final score of 25:16. Brianna Ford was named the night's gold MVP, while her teammate Anna Hartig received the silver MVP medal. Marc Arne Schümann, publishing director of Westfälische Nachrichten, was present at the medal presentation.
Coach Matthias Pack was visibly satisfied with the team's performance after initial difficulties. “We had a bumpy start, but the team quickly recovered,” he explained after the game. The next challenge is already waiting: On November 1st, USC will face the Ladies in Black Aachen, and the fans can look forward to an exciting duel.
The cup beckons
But USC Münster doesn't just have plans for the championship. Next Sunday the cup ceremony for German volleyball clubs will take place in Mannheim, where the USC women will compete against Dresdner SC. Despite the fact that Dresdner SC is currently third in the Bundesliga and Münster is only in third-to-last place, there is optimism: sports director Ralph Bergmann not only sees his team as underdogs, but believes in the possibility of upsetting the favorite team from Dresden. Münster secured their place in the cup final after convincing wins in the previous rounds against Vilsbiburg, Wiesbaden and Aachen.
Financial challenges
Despite the sporting successes, USC Münster is still confronted with a debt burden of 400,000 euros, which can be traced back to incorrectly paid wage taxes. The club was on the verge of bankruptcy, but was able to save itself with bridging loans and savings measures. The women's Bundesliga is currently struggling with financial problems - only nine clubs are playing for the coveted playoff places. In this context, Münster is pursuing a rigorous savings program and aims to contribute 100,000 euros annually to repay debts.
On the field, the team is the youngest in the league, with players between the ages of 18 and 22. The attendance in Münster is impressive: the club has the third best attendance in the league, and the cup semi-final against Aachen was almost sold out with 2,800 passionate fans. This support is essential in order to stay on track even in the difficult financial situation.
Another chapter in the club's history concerns Chiara Hoenhorst. She became known in 2018 for a tragic shooting spree in Münster and suffered serious injuries. But Chiara fought her way back into volleyball and now plays on the USC second team.
The next game in the Bundesliga and the upcoming cup fight are not only sporting but also strategic challenges for USC Münster. The fans are hoping for exciting games and keeping their fingers crossed for the team!
