New Rimbach stop: State-of-the-art connection for students launched!
The transport connection for the students of the Martin Luther School in Rimbach will now be significantly improved with a new stop on the Weschnitztalbahn. The opening of this stop took place in mid-August 2025, just in time for the start of the new school year. Around two million euros were invested in the project, which was carried out through a collaboration between Deutsche Bahn, the state of Hesse, the district Bergstrasse, the municipality of Rimbach and the Rhine-Neckar transport association.
The stop, which went into operation on August 18, offers a direct connection to local rail passenger transport and complements the existing Rimbach train station. For the more than 300 students, this innovation ensures safe and comfortable access to transport, explains Deutsche Bahn. The user-friendly equipment includes a 100 meter long and 55 centimeter high, barrier-free platform that offers step-free entry into the trains.
State-of-the-art equipment for everyone
The modern design of the stop is particularly noteworthy. These include a weather shelter, energy-efficient LED lighting, a tactile wayfinding system for blind and visually impaired passengers and a dynamic font display for current passenger information. These measures are not only practical, but also urgently necessary, as barriers in public transport continue to be a major obstacle for many people with disabilities. Apparently, these people have similar mobility needs as everyone else and want to travel just as flexibly and climate-neutrally, according to the VCD.
The pedestrian bridge that leads over the Weschnitz directly connects the school center with the new stop. This ensures that students can easily and quickly move between school and transport connections in everyday life without having to rely on the car. Further planned measures include Park & Ride and Bike & Ride facilities, which will further enhance the stop.
A step into the future
The stop's construction time was just three months and shows that quick, efficient action is possible when the right partners work together. The Rimbach School Center stop is an excellent example of successful traffic planning that is geared to the needs of the local population. It would be conceivable that similar projects could follow in other regions to further improve accessibility to schools and other institutions.
The state government, the community and schools have invested in the mobility of the future with their commitment. Of course, there is still a lot to be done to ensure accessibility in local public transport across the board. As the VCD addresses, there are many areas for improvement, from information to access to stops and stations.
The new Rimbach School Center stop will make the journey to school safer, more comfortable and more environmentally friendly for hundreds of young people. This is not only a benefit for the school, but also for the entire community, which can hope for a further step towards a modern and green mobility culture.
