Boëtius makes Suriname shine in the Gold Cup – the first game!

There is exciting news in the football world as Jean-Paul Boëtius, the 31-year-old player from Darmstadt 98, is going after goals for Suriname in the prestigious Gold Cup in the USA. The competition, considered one of the most important tournaments in football, offers Suriname a unique opportunity to prove itself internationally. The anticipation is great and the whole country is proud to be taking part, as Boëtius emphasized in an interview: “It is a special feeling to play for our country.” reports SV 98.

Suriname has a challenging group stage ahead of them in the Gold Cup. The team faces Costa Rica, Mexico and the Dominican Republic - probably the most difficult starting position imaginable. The first game will take place on Monday at 5 a.m. German time against Costa Rica. “We have to give our best right from the start,” believes Boëtius, who is also sure that the strong competition should not be underestimated. “Costa Rica and Mexico are impressive teams” , he explains further.

A proud heritage and special moments

Boëtius, who was born in the Netherlands, has Surinamese roots. His parents come from this football-crazy country with just 600,000 inhabitants. He first contacted the Surinamese Football Association six years ago, but he only made the decision to join the national team later. “This decision was not easy, but I am proud to play for my home country,” he says, and the debut against El Salvador remains unforgettable for him. For him, the atmosphere at this international game was completely different to that in the German leagues - it was simply something completely new. This is how he describes his experience further.

While Boëtius is on the pitch, preparation for the new season for most of the other Darmstadt 98 players will begin on June 20th. The Lilies are working hard to get off to a flying start next season.

The outlook for the group games

Participation in the Gold Cup is a big deal for Suriname as the country is not often represented in this tournament. The first games will be played in San Diego and at AT&T Stadium in Dallas. Here the team will play against Mexico. Boëtius sees these games as an opportunity to bring Suriname onto the international football stage and inspire the people of his home country. “We are a football-crazy country and we want to give something back to our fans,” he says with determination , reports Kicker.

Whether Suriname can withstand the pressure and perhaps even survive the group remains to be seen. The challenges are great, but the pride of playing for your own country gives Boëtius and his colleagues the motivation they need!
