Three kittens abandoned: Police ask for information in Frankfurt!
On Wednesday, July 9, 2025, there will be several unusual events from Hesse that will cause excitement. A particularly alarming incident occurred last Friday when three small kittens were abandoned at the Höchst exit of the A66 in Frankfurt. An attentive witness observed how an unknown man simply left the kittens behind. Luckily, an animal welfare initiative found one of the cruelly abandoned kittens and immediately took it to a veterinary clinic. However, there is no trace of the other two. Police have begun an investigation and are appealing for any witnesses to provide information about this heartbreaking incident. As tagesschau.de reports, this is not the first case of abandoned animals and underlines the need to care for homeless animals.
A strange accident also occurred in Cornberg in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district on Tuesday, July 8, 2025: a brewery truck came off the B27. Witnesses report that the truck raced across a meadow and finally came to a stop in a ditch just before a river. Police suspect the driver lost control of the vehicle due to a medical emergency. The driver sustained injuries in the incident and was taken to hospital. As a result of the accident, the truck lost fuel, which called the fire department into action to bring the dangerous situation under control. The truck, which partially landed in the riverbed, was finally pulled out of the ditch with a tow truck, as tagesschau.de documents.
Animal and human rescue in focus
The incidents in Hesse also arouse general interest in animal and human rescue. Friedhelm Bechtel, a dedicated firefighter from Augsburg, describes how often young cats have to be rescued from trees. Animal rescue is considered free in Augsburg because it often remains unclear who owns the animals. These observations underline how important it is to retreat, especially in such situations, and to give the animals a way out, for example by providing food. Bechtel also emphasizes the priorities of the fire department: rescuing people comes first, followed by rescuing animals and then securing property, as described in br.de.
Interestingly, a false alarm can still incur costs, for example to the police, where you can quickly expect to pay 54 euros per man-hour. You should think carefully about whether the emergency call is really necessary. This is especially true when it comes to cats, who may be better at getting down on their own. Nevertheless, if fire reports are unclear, the fire brigade will come to the scene with all their might, fortunately at no cost to the caller as long as there is real suspicion. A good example of this is the rescue of small cats.
In these turbulent times, when people and animals are in distress, it becomes clear once again how important the interaction between rescue workers is. Let's hope the two missing kittens are found soon and the driver of the truck makes a speedy recovery. Such reports show that compassion and helpfulness are needed in every corner of the city.
