Emotional treasure of gold: Couple from Hesse surprises at Cash for Rares”!

When the junk show “Cash for Rares” touches the hearts of viewers, it often happens in the blink of an eye. This is also the case with Ilona and Bernd Kogranski from Johannisberg, Hesse, who recently appeared on the show with a very special treasure. The couple brought with them an exquisitely crafted 900 gold necklace and matching bracelet from the 1960s - pieces that had sat neglected in a drawer for years.

The jewelry, a reminder of the time of purchase in Tehran, Iran, was purchased by Bernd Kogranski for his sister. An origin that master goldsmith Patrick Lessmann was able to easily confirm. His expertise also brought to light the ancient technique of filigree used in its creation and the graceful quartz gemstones known as hawk's eyes.

Emotional surprise and high expectations

The Kogranskis had asked for a price of 1,500 euros for their jewelry. But Patrick Lessmann's estimate was much higher - between 4,100 and 4,200 euros! The gold value alone was already 3,900 euros. The couple's emotions were palpable as the appreciation went beyond their expectations.

As is usual in the drinking session during sales, the first price negotiation took place in the dealer's room. Julian Schmitz-Avila initially offered 4,000 euros, but Susanne Steiger from Cologne finally won the bid and paid a guaranteed 4,100 euros. Bernd Kogranski was visibly happy and surprised at the high price they achieved for their long-held treasure.

Behind the scenes of “Cash for Rares”

“Bares für Rares” is not just a junk show, but has been an integral part of the ZDF program since 2013, focusing on antiques, art treasures and fine jewelry. Owners who have found valuables in the cellar or attic can put their treasures into the running for a lucrative sale. Always at your side: Moderator Horst Lichter and a selected expert who checks the condition and value of the object before it goes to the dealer's room, where the negotiations begin.

Starting September 14, 2023, the show will even air on Saturdays, which means great news for all antiques fans and collectors. For all those who missed the broadcast, a comprehensive media library and various video clips are available so that you don't miss any exciting events. Anyone who is also interested in jewelry is invited to stop by Elke Velten in downtown Bonn - part of the dealer team since 2016 and with over 30 years of experience, she shows how intoxicating the charm of stories behind pieces of jewelry can be.
