Frankfurt is preparing for the spectacular Ironman 2025!
On June 27th, 2025 all eyes will be on Frankfurt, where the exciting 23rd edition of the Ironman Frankfurt takes place. Over 3,000 athletes from around the world have signed up to compete in one of the most iconic triathlon sports events. Among these athletes, the main favorite is the German Patrick Lange, three-time Hawaii winner, who has decided to defend his place at the top.
However, the competition is by no means small. One of the outstanding rival candidates is the Norwegian Kristian Blumenfelt, who won the Ironman Frankfurt 2024 with a record-breaking time of 7:27:21 and will compete again in 2025. Gustav Iden, who won the Ironman World Championship title in 2022, and Magnus Ditlev, who placed second in the last Ironman World Championship race, are also in the running. The entire list of top athletes also includes names such as Jonas Schomburg, Paul Schuster, Jonas Hoffmann and the American Rudy Von Berg.
Competition details and spectator experience
The competition will feature an impressive program. Athletes must complete a distance consisting of 3.8 km swimming, 180 km cycling and a 42 km marathon. The professional athletes start at 6:20 a.m. at Langener Waldsee, while the other participants jump into the water at 6:35 a.m. There are numerous hotspots along the route for spectators, including the Langener Waldsee for swimming, the Alte Brücke, “The Beast” in Enkheim and “The Hell” in Maintal-Hochstadt. The first finishes of the best athletes are expected from 2 p.m., followed by the first women, who are scheduled to arrive at 3:15 p.m.
The event organization also ensured that there were no unpleasant surprises in advance. From 3 a.m. traffic restrictions around the Langener Waldsee will take effect, and from 3:30 a.m. there will also be disruptions in Frankfurt city center that will last until midnight. Many affected cities have already been informed, and there is an interactive map with the closure times for anyone interested.
Live stream and prize distribution
For everyone who cannot be there, Hessischer Rundfunk will broadcast the race from 6:10 a.m. both in a live stream and on television, with commentary by Sebastian Kienle. For the professionals there is a hefty prize money of 87,500 US dollars as well as the chance to get five coveted starting places for the 2025 Ironman World Championship in Nice. Those interested in the rankings and participating in future competitions can look forward to up to 5,000 points in the Ironman Pro Series bonus pool, which totals $1.7 million.
In addition, the Ironman Frankfurt 2025 also shows positive signs for the growth of the sport of triathlon. Current research shows that athletes competing in Ironman triathlons are becoming younger, with a significant increase in participants under the age of 30. Interest in the sport of triathlon is growing worldwide, and a positive trend can also be observed in terms of the proportion of women, with initiatives to promote female athletes and equal conditions for participation. More and more women are taking part in such competitions, showing that the sport of triathlon is anything but a men's club.
With this exciting mix of sport, competition and community, Ironman Frankfurt 2025 will undoubtedly be an unforgettable event for athletes and spectators alike.
