Frankfurt celebrates: Gourmet heroes of the Michelin Guide 2025 honored!

The coveted “Guide Michelin”, known for its first-class restaurant reviews, published the latest awards on June 17, 2025. In Hesse, 18 restaurants can now look forward to Michelin stars. The Frankfurt restaurant “Lafleur” particularly stands out, which continues to shine with two stars. New to the list of star restaurants is the “Sommerfeld”, which has taken over the title from the former star restaurant “Weinsinn”, which was unfortunately closed. But the Hessian gastronomy scene has much more to offer - a restaurant with three stars remains an unattainable dream, even though a total of 341 restaurants in Germany have been awarded at least one star.

The presentation of the stars in the Frankfurt event hall attracted many interested people. For the first time, the award ceremony was streamed live on YouTube, which is a highlight for gourmets and those interested in gaining an insight into the world of top cuisine. It is clear that participation in such events is very popular, as Michelin is considered the flagship restaurant guide. The next guide will be published at the end of July and the anticipation is palpable.

Rating system and meaning of the stars

The “Michelin Guide” has a strict rating system based on various criteria, including the quality and freshness of the ingredients, the professional preparation and the harmony of the taste combinations. A Michelin star stands for cuisine full of finesse and is a clear recommendation. With two stars you can speak of top-class cuisine, and three stars mean that a restaurant is worth a trip. These awards are important not only to restaurant owners, but also to guests looking for a special dining experience. Worldsoffood explains that the testers are anonymous and guarantee a high level of objectivity.

But the “Guide Michelin” is not the only gourmet guide on the market. The “Gault&Millau” rates restaurants using a points or toque system, whereby the highest quality and creativity are also rewarded. In contrast to Michelin, which awards stars, Gault&Millau highlights the best restaurants with up to five toques. For many chefs, these awards are both an incentive and a goal to further refine their cooking skills.

A look at the future

The German gastronomy scene now needs to prepare for the upcoming restaurant guide. The fact that, despite strong competition, no restaurant in Hesse has achieved the three-star mark is both a challenge and an incentive for chefs and restaurant owners. The gastronomic landscape in Germany is vibrant and colorful, and it seems like an exciting year lies ahead, with many new talents having the chance to take the spotlight. My top hotel emphasizes that nationally and internationally recognized awards for creativity and excellent cuisine are awarded to the restaurants.

The gourmet world is full of surprises, and we can look forward to seeing what new highlights and culinary masterpieces the star chefs will present to us in the future.
