Construction work on the railway line between Hanau and Gelnhausen in Hesse is gaining momentum. A decisive step forward is imminent: the construction of a new bridge on the L3202 in Gelnhausen marks an important milestone in this infrastructure project. This work is being carried out by Deutsche Bahn (DBInfraGo) and is part of the extensive Frankfurt RheinMain plus infrastructure development program.
Two mobile cranes are used to erect the 24 meter long prefabricated components. However, the construction work also entails some restrictions on rail traffic. Between November 14th and 17th, the route between Hanau and Waechtersbach will be completely closed and a replacement rail service with buses will be set up. In particular, regional trains that are canceled are to be replaced, while diversions for long-distance traffic become necessary.
Extensive closures and diversions
The length of time for the closures has already been determined. The railway line between Hanau and Waechtersbach will be closed from Friday, November 14th at 9:00 p.m. to Monday, November 17th at 5:00 a.m. Those too L3202 between Lagerhausstrasse and Clamecystrasse is affected from November 13th to 17th. However, emergency vehicles should still be able to pass.
In addition, there are partial cancellations on the RB 51 and RE 5 on certain days. Passengers are informed that they should allow more time, especially since the buses are not allowed to take bicycles.
Consequences for passengers
Thanks to an automatic warning system (ATWS), attempts are made to keep the disruption to travelers as low as possible. Display boards and loudspeaker announcements should provide up-to-date information. DB Regio has organized rail replacement services for the canceled regional trains between November 13th and 18th in order to offer travelers alternative transport options.
In addition, further work is planned in Gelnhausen, including changing sleepers, tamping work, signal foundations and modernizing the overhead line and platforms. This helps to sustainably improve the infrastructure.
