The Fantastic Four delight 4,500 fans at the magnificent Domplatz concert!
On July 8, 2025, the cathedral square in Fulda was transformed into a true festival of music when Fantastic Four celebrated with around 4,500 fans. With a great 25 degrees and blue skies, the visitors visibly felt comfortable and came from three generations, many of whom were accompanied by their families and fans between the ages of 40 and 60.
The concert started at 8:30 p.m. with the new hit “Weekendfeeling” from their current album “Long Player”, which was released in October 2023. Smudo (57) warmly greeted the crowd and even managed to weave Fulda into the chorus of the well-known song “Die da”. His bandmates Thomas D (56), Michi Beck (57) and And.Ypsilon (57) created a successful atmosphere. Thomas D spoke about transience and the importance of savoring the moment.
An unforgettable concert
The show lasted 116 minutes and included four exciting encores, with the song “Together” playing as the crowning finale. Before that, DJ Thomilla heated things up with a 45-minute hip-hop support act, which further got the audience in the mood. The Fantastischen Vier are no strangers to Cathedral Square; They also gave a concert there in 2023 and are now part of the “Long Player On Tour”.
The band has an impressive history: Founded in 1987 as The Terminal Team, they were renamed the “Fantastic Four” in 1989 and are now recognized as Germany's most famous rap act. Their debut album “Now it’s happening”, released in 1991, is considered the first entirely German-language rap album. The sales figures also speak for themselves - they have sold millions of records and received numerous prizes and platinum awards, making them one of the biggest pop stories in Germany.
A look at German hip-hop
Hip-hop in Germany has grown into a dominant cultural force since its humble beginnings in the 1980s. The influence of American soldiers in the Rhine-Main area helped to establish the musical form in Germany. In 1987, Mike “DynaMike” Wagner and Marian “Snowman” Meinhardt rapped in the GDR, which is considered the birth of German-language hip-hop. The Fantastischen Vier in particular continued with “Them there!?” 1992 sets standards in German rap and their commercial breakthrough.
The development of the genre hasn't always been easy, but hip-hop reflects important social issues - from racism to social inequality. The roots go back to the first German-language hip-hop release “Rapper’s Deutsch” and went through various cultural and musical changes that shape the entire German music landscape. An exciting documentary entitled “Hiphop – Made in Germany” sheds light on these developments and their effects on society.
At the end of the concert, it should be noted that after their new songs and a successful anniversary tour in 2022 and 2023, the Fantastischen Vier are still very popular and will be giving further concerts on Cathedral Square until July 12th. These also include performances by Roland Kaiser (sold out), Robin Schulz and Wincent Weiss, for which tickets are still available.
