A breath of fresh air in Fulda's world of enjoyment: new faces, well-known classics!

There is fresh news on the gastronomy scene in the charming city of Fulda. On July 1, 2025, Ahmed Abdel Baseir took over the Italian restaurant “Vini & Panini” from Edgar Fritz, who had run the restaurant since 2010. Abdel Baseir, the 46-year-old native of Egypt, is no stranger to the restaurant, as he has been part of the team since 2009 and has been active as restaurant manager since 2015. During the handover, he promised the guests that everything in the restaurant would remain the same - from the popular pasta to pizza to homemade bread. The restaurant has 39 indoor and 100 outdoor seats daily, and the focus is still on Mediterranean cuisine with seasonal specialties. According to the Fuldaer Zeitung, “Vini & Panini” produces an impressive 450 kilograms of pasta per month.

Vini & Panini isn't the only eatery that's undergone recent changes. In Rothemann, the “Ristorante Pizzeria Italia” was renamed “Ristorante Pizzeria Italia Amadeo” on August 1, 2025. This restaurant is now run by Hamid Ahmadi and his wife Sabrina Abbas-Ahmadi. They not only redesigned the menu, but also renovated the dining room and created a play area for children. Ahmadi is convinced that personal contact with guests is more important than a delivery service, which is therefore not planned. The entire concept relies on fresh ingredients and creative accents such as the new “Pizza Rothemann” and dessert pizzas. Oliver Schäfer, the landlord of the restaurant, also emphasizes how important these restaurants are for the region.

Tradition continues

Fritz, the new former owner of “Vini & Panini”, has built up the restaurant over the last 15 years and originally wanted to sell five years ago. However, the sale was postponed due to the corona pandemic. With one last look at his time at the restaurant, he emphasizes how much this place is close to his heart and that he is proud of what he has achieved. His commitment is reflected in the quality and tradition that Ahmed Abdel Baseir now wants to continue. “We will carry on as we did before July 1st,” assures Baseir with conviction, while pointing to the restaurant’s long history and good reputation.

The gastronomy scene in Fulda is currently enjoying lively changes. In addition to the new owner of “Vini & Panini”, culinary explorers can also look forward to the newly opened “Heimatblick” restaurant in Horas, which serves German cuisine with a Mediterranean accent. In addition to the well-known Italian and Mediterranean restaurants, you can also find steakhouses and cafés in Fulda, which make the city a gastronomic hotspot. Particularly noteworthy are the numerous Italian restaurants and pizzerias that complement this culinary diversity. The Osthessen News has also reported that many of these businesses are of great importance to the community.

In addition, the “Weinhaus” on Kanalstrasse will close its doors on August 31, 2025, which represents a further loss in the catering landscape for the residents. But with the continued growth and adaptability of existing restaurants, there are many reasons to be optimistic. Fulda has a lot to offer in terms of variety and high quality offerings, which should continue to unfold in the coming months.
