Hesse record in Wetzlar: StG Hünfeld sprints to the championship!
The Hessian Relay Championships on June 20, 2025 in Wetzlar were a real competition to the power of ten! The HLV district of Fulda Hünfeld excelled with five relays, all of which were formed from starting communities (StG). The focus was particularly on the WJU14 relay team from StG Hünfeld-Eichenzell-Flieden, which set a sensational Hesse record over 4×75 meters.
The first relay of this group ran the distance in a fantastic 38.30 seconds, improving Eintracht Frankfurt's previous best time of 38.54 seconds in 2015. The season was cast by Malia Bohl, Frida Derigs, Lotta Roth and Lawen Maiello. In the final run, the relay team secured the Hessen championship title with a time of 38.50 seconds. Their second relay also competed successfully and came in 6th place in 41.52 seconds.
Successful relays from Fulda
The MJU14 relay team from StG Hünfeld-Petersberg-Hilders also delivered. In the first heat over 4x75 meters they achieved the third fastest time of 40.27 seconds. In the final run they won the bronze medal with 39.99 seconds, just 0.01 seconds behind the silver medalist. This season featured Fabian Leibold, Alexander Herrlein, Alwin Greifzu and Mathéo Freier.
Because it wasn't just the WJU14 relay that shone: the WJU20 relay from StG Hünfeld-Fulda was also impressive! They started in the Swedish relay, consisting of 100, 200, 300 and 400 meter runs, and won with a total time of 2:22.82 minutes. The runners Hanna Knieper, Lilli Roth, Linda Schmitt and Greta Lucia Ritz were part of this outstanding performance.
A wide range of participants
The Hessian Championships attract athletes from a wide variety of regions. This event not only offers a platform for elite athletes, but also for young talent to showcase their talents. For example, TSV Amicitia Viernheim competed with seven relay teams for the first time. The youngest participants in the WJU14, including Hannah Burk, Sidelya Su Özkara, Mia Elisa Prechtel and Mia Schwarz, also offered a fighting performance.
In the preliminary run they achieved a time of 44.84 seconds, which meant 18th place. While the MJU14 relay made a mistake at the third change and did not reach the finish, the male youth 3x800 meter relay with Riedel, Bendig and Fast found their way to the finish in 9:26.41 minutes and took 9th place.
All of these achievements are recorded in leaderboards and provide an overview of developments in athletics at regional and national levels. Thanks to platforms like the Bestenliste Athletics, fans and coaches have the opportunity to follow the performances of all athletes in detail.
The Hessian Championships were not just a competition, but a celebration of athletics, where the young athletes were able to show what they were made of and wow the spectators with impressive performances. The HLV district of Fulda Hünfeld will certainly continue to achieve such record achievements!
