Hochtaunus launches heavy rain early warning system for better civil protection!
An important early warning project is being launched in the Hochtaunuskreis, which is of great importance for the population of our region. The Hochtaunuskreis, together with the Wetteraukreis and the Main-Kinzig district, is planning to develop an innovative “heavy rain early warning system”. The aim is to better protect citizens from the increasingly frequent heavy rain events. Loud FNP The project is funded as part of the program “Promotion of smart municipalities and regions in the Strong Home Hesse program” and brings together the three districts with a total population of 972,000 people.
The total volume for the project amounts to around 2.7 million euros, of which an incredible 90 percent is borne by the state of Hesse. Head of Water and Soil Protection Department, Thomas Golla, presented the project to the Committee for Planning, Transport and Environment. “The heavy rain early warning system” will be based on the experiences from a successful pilot project in the Fulda district and will, among other things, combine heavy rain hotspot maps with a sensor network.
Innovative technologies for civil protection
A particular focus of the system will be on monitoring rain events, canal configurations and water levels in bodies of water. Meteorological data, sensor data and hydrodynamic model forecasts are analyzed in order to point out possible dangers in good time. For this purpose, the data collected is used via a cloud system for automated alerts. Soil moisture measurements will also play an important role in the early warning system, as they help to identify the risk of heavy rain at an early stage.
The project also promotes inter-communal exchange and is intended to prepare the region for the challenges of climate change. While CDU politician Holger Bellino and coalition spokesman Norbert Fischer consider the project to be essential for civil protection, AfD spokesman Paul Mützer expressed some reservations about the usefulness of the project. Nevertheless, Patricia Peveling from the Greens emphasized the urgency of inter-municipal cooperation and the inclusion of the Main-Taunus district.
Technological developments as inspiration
Progress is also evident in the world of technology: the release of the first Plugin Manager by the OBS Project platform led to significant improvements and optimizations, particularly for NVIDIA RTX Filters. Support for the hybrid MOV format has been added, which will please many users. OBS Project highlights that the streaming bitrate has been increased from 2500 to 6000 to ensure a better streaming experience.
Overall, it shows that exciting developments are taking place both in the area of civil protection and in technology that will help us to better meet the challenges of the future. So let’s look at what’s new and enjoy the progress in our communities.
