A new wind in Hosenfeld: Frederik Hohnstein becomes mayor!

On October 30, 2025, a ceremonial handover took place in the Hosenfeld community center, which not only kept the community but also the entire region in suspense. Frederik Hohnstein was ceremoniously sworn in as the new mayor, replacing Peter Malolepszy (CDU), who was farewell with much applause and thanks. Hohnstein won the mayoral election on May 25, 2025 with 59.6 percent of the vote against his competitor Sascha Erb (CDU), which was a surprise for many. His goal: to justify the voters' trust.

In her words, Michaela Alt, chairwoman of the community council, emphasized the great responsibility that Hohnstein now has to bear and wished him to “grow with his tasks” and always keep the well-being of the community in mind. Hohnstein himself said that he would like to have open discussions with all political groups and citizens and would like to see greater participation of young people and a higher quota of women in local politics.

A farewell with appreciation

Peter Malolepszy was recognized for his decades of commitment. During his term in office, he led the community, especially in financially strained times, and initiated important projects such as investments in the fire department and the renovation of community roads. In his emotional farewell speech, he thanked his employees, friends and family, with a special greeting to his wife Katja. He encouraged Hohnstein to go his own way and promised that he would look at the new challenge with the greatest respect.

The celebration also attracted District Administrator Bernd Woide (CDU) and other speakers who paid respect to Malolepszy for his work and wished Hohnstein much success in his new role. His successor brings a breath of fresh air into local politics, and expectations of Hohnstein are high.
