Sandweg in Almendorf wins the first neighborhood award in Fulda!
There was just an exciting competition in the city of Petersberg for the first Fulda neighborhood prize, which was awarded by the Antonius Foundation. The winner? The Sandweg neighborhood in Almendorf! With prize money of 2,000 euros, a neighborhood festival is now being organized and a chronicle is being created to further strengthen the community. A total of 41 neighborhoods applied for the award, which shows how much passion there is in the region. The award ceremony took place on June 24th in the cozy café of the Antonius community, where the participants celebrated the good neighbors.
The event, which was hosted by Mayor Dr. Accompanied by Heiko Wingenfeld (CDU) and Rainer Sippel, Chairman of the Antonius Board of Trustees, it was a real neighborhood celebration. Wingenfeld emphasized the importance of such initiatives in order to make neighborly commitment visible. City council leader Margarete Hartmann (CDU) gave a moving laudatory speech and described Sandweg as an inspiring example of decades-long community.

The celebration was framed by portrait films introducing the finalists and musical accompaniment by Mike Ryan. The improv theater duo Shaggy Schwarz and Stefanie Burk provided the necessary entertainment. Sebastian Bönisch, the managing director of antonius, took the opportunity to emphasize the provider's inclusive attitude, which is conducive to neighborly coexistence.
Commitment to good neighbors
The idea behind the prize is not only to reward the best projects, but also to promote a culture of openness and helpfulness. After all, good neighbors bring people together! “Having a good hand” means everyone involved who supports their neighbors as part of this initiative and makes a difference together. The jury, consisting of ten members with different backgrounds, also contributed to selecting the best projects. In addition to Hendrik Urbin, the managing director of OSTHESSEN|NEWS, who acted as media partner, other committed citizens and experts were also part of the jury.
The continuation of the neighborhood price has already been announced. In the future, other projects that enrich neighborhood life in Fulda and the surrounding area will continue to be honored. It remains exciting to see how the neighborhoods continue to develop and new friendships emerge. The next competition and awards ceremony are already being planned and communities are encouraged to take part.
With this award, the Antonius Foundation shows once again how important neighborly engagement is in order to create good coexistence. Committed neighbors are the basis for a solidarity-based and lively environment - and that's why it's worth getting involved!
