At dusk on July 16, 2025, a serious traffic accident occurred on the BAB 7 motorway, between the Homberg/Efze and Bad Hersfeld-West junctions. At around 6:13 p.m., a 38-year-old car driver from the Bamberg district skidded in his BMW, presumably due to the rain-soaked road and an inadequate speed. The vehicle drifted dangerously to the left and hit the concrete barrier with full force before skidding across the road and hitting the rear of a semi-trailer, whose driver, 50 years old, fortunately remained uninjured. The emergency services from the Bad Hersfeld police motorway station, the Homberg/Efze fire department and ambulances were quickly on site. The right lane was closed for approximately 1.5 hours while traffic was moved smoothly through the middle and left lanes. Fortunately, there were no major traffic disruptions.
