Shining winners: RhönEnergie Challenge inspires 6,000 runners in Fulda!

The popular event took place in Fulda on June 14, 2025 Rhön Energy Challenge instead of. Almost 6,000 runners created an exuberant atmosphere that was characterized by exhaustion and happiness at the same time. Photographer Jonas Wenzel captured impressive impressions of the finish area, where beaming faces celebrated the hard work and the communal experience.

The event was able to look back on a special anniversary this year as it celebrated its 18th anniversary. Organizer Heide Aust reported that 5,800 participants set out on the 6.6 kilometer route through the city center. For many of these athletes, the challenge was not just a competition, but a commitment to community. Over 100 spontaneous runners registered on the day of the event, which underlined the great enthusiasm East Hesse News notes.

The route and new records

This year, for the first time, the route was extended again through the enchanting castle gardens, making it 600 meters longer than last year. The first runners reached the finish in the Rosenau outdoor pool after about 20 minutes, which further increased the exciting atmosphere. Fulda University also had its say: with almost 600 runners, it set a new record, compared to just 444 last year. This shows that interest in the event is constantly increasing.

Another highlight of the challenge was the inclusion of virtual mileage: a total of 76,000 kilometers from an online phase were included in the overall ranking. This progressive approach captures the spirit of the times and makes the event accessible to everyone, whether they participate in person or virtually.
