Gießen Pointers start the season full of energy with new shirts and cheers!

Last Sunday, October 1, 2023, the Gießen Pointers hosted their first home game performance of the season. With a thrilling 77:74 win after extra time against Bensheim, the basketball players have already returned to the 1st Basketball Regional League Southwest and are showing promising approaches for the upcoming season. The team, which has undergone a refreshing change and now consists of a young team, is striving to take part in the playoffs with full vigor after narrowly missing out last year as seventh in the table, as the Gießen Pointers report on their homepage. The game started at 5:30 p.m. in the Brothers Grimm sports hall, where the club's youngest talents immediately proved to be reliable supporters.

A special highlight of the event was the presentation of the new season shirts by GalaxyCheer Gießen, which also provided the framework for the performances of the Gießen Pointers cheerleaders. These ensembles not only show team spirit, but also promote cohesion and performance across different age groups, from peewees to seniors. Thanks to the support of Coleman Traffic Safety, the new shirts for coaches and athletes were made possible. This shows how important collaboration within the club is in order to motivate young athletes and give them a feeling of belonging, according to reporting from the Gießen Zeitung.

Strengthening the young generation

The Gießen Pointers attach great importance to promoting young talent. The Time Outs serve as a stage for the athletes to gain valuable performance experience and strengthen their self-confidence. This initiative is supported by the entire club community and makes it clear that cohesion in the club is important not only for the athletes, but also for the coaches and relatives. In this context, finding members in all age groups is a central concern, regardless of previous experience.

A comprehensive look at the promotion of young talent in basketball shows that this represents a central challenge in German sport. The Institute for Applied Training Science (IAT) in Leipzig has published concise fact sheets on promoting young competitive sports. These documents provide clear information about the different bases and support structures that are crucial for the further development of young players. According to Adam Ligocki, the sporting director of the German Basketball Federation, this processed data brings a direct benefit to all those involved in sport.

The Gießen Pointers have taken exactly the right path – both on and off the field. With a focus on developing young talent and strengthening club life, they can not only look back on a successful first home game, but also on a promising future in basketball.
