Jena celebrates a strong victory: start to the new basketball season!

The Thuringian basketball team Science City Jena travels to Baden-Württemberg with a breath of fresh air to start the new season. After a preparation that was characterized by mixed results in test matches, the Jena team are confident. MDR reports that the team won two of their five test games, including an impressive win against SYNTAINICS MBC, which ended with 104:82.

Although the test phase brought with it some difficulties, particularly defeats against the NINERS Chemnitz (79:92) and the BMA365 Bamberg Baskets (86:98), coach Björn Harmsen emphasized that the focus is on offense and rebounding. These two aspects are indeed central to the team's future successes, as the highlights of the activities from the test matches lie not only in the results, but also in the learning effects and insights.

Training and test matches

According to BFV regulations, test matches are not just simple competitions, but rather integrated training units that provide important insights into the players' suitability for competition. Here, alternate players can fully rely on their endurance and further training sessions without the focus being on winning. Opponents are selected strategically in order to set different priorities in training and to promote targeted skills.

In Jena's case, the last test match against ratiopharm Ulm served as a dress rehearsal and ended extremely close with 88:89. This encounter gave the coaches the opportunity to sharpen defensive and offensive game play and thus played a role in the planning for the season.

Looking forward to the new season

The team goes into the season with a number of new faces. Six new players are on board, including Tavian Dunn-Martin, who will replace the injured Sigu Jawara. Other new additions include Joe Wieskamp, Naz Bohannon, Keith Braxton and Eric Washington. The departure of top scorer Zachery Cooks to Telekom Baskets Bonn was painful, but hopes rest on Robin Christen, who stood out as the second best point collector last season.

With the breath of fresh air in the team and valuable insights from the test games, there is great anticipation for the new season. Whether the team can implement these positive approaches in the league will become clear over the course of the season. The Jena fans can only hope that the team shows a good hand and confirms the good performances from the preparation in the competitive games.

There are also a variety of training resources available for all basketball fans, ranging from drills for different age groups to targeted exercises. Regardless of whether it's dribbling or defending - the variety in execution and the strategic approach to training are the key to the further development of the players and to strengthening the team.
