Literary walk in Wettenberg: A festival for book lovers!

The first literary walk took place in Wettenberg on September 7, 2025, an exciting event that appealed not only to nature lovers but also to literature enthusiasts. Organized by the owner of the “Büchertreppe” in Krofdorf-Gleiberg, Sabine Loh, the walk was held on the occasion of her 25th anniversary. Around 30 participants went on a delightful tour through the Krofdorfer Forest and the Fohnbachtal to experience the upcoming autumn with all their senses. The running took place on well-developed forest paths and off the wide paths, with the route covering almost three kilometers.

The two authors Katrina Friese and Andreas Eikenroth guided the participants through the day. They contributed to the special atmosphere of the event with readings and personal anecdotes. Surprise guests such as Ulrich Urband and Dietlind Köhncke further lightened up the program by reading from unpublished stories at various rest points. Köhncke brings an impressive academic background, having studied literature, sociology and philosophy and worked as a teacher for a while.

Hikes and literature combined

A special book signing took place at the end of the tour. The authors presented their work “Wait, I’m coming with you,” which has just been published in its third edition. This book by Andreas Eikenroth is a collection of wonderful circular hikes through the natural landscape of Central Hesse, which is enriched with impressive photographs by Katrina Friese and personal route descriptions. The lovingly designed tours lead through forests, past colorful meadows and offer wonderful views of the surrounding area, including castles and Celtic relics.

The event was not only intended to promote the local bookstore, but also to promote the joy of literature. This type of connection between nature and literature is particularly enriching and shows that reading and experiencing can go hand in hand.

Reading country Hesse 2025

The festival is a cooperation between various organizers, communities, the Hessian Ministry of Science and Art and the Hessischer Rundfunk, and also offers over 100 children's book readings at schools in Hesse. An important project that promotes a love of literature in a wide range of age groups and brings many people together.

The Literary Walk in Wettenberg and the Reading Land Hessen 2025 are wonderful examples of how literature and nature can be interwoven and show once again that reading enriches life.
