Mickey Mouse and Benjamin Blümchen delight kids at the elephant toilet!

On August 17, 2025, Gießen experienced an unforgettable day when Mickey Mouse and Benjamin Blümchen performed at the elephant toilet. This event was part of the popular series “Gießen ist Elefantastic because…” and attracted numerous young fans who enjoyed the opportunity to high-five and hug their favorite characters. The children's joy was palpable when they were able to experience the colorful characters up close.

A naming party for the elephants was originally planned, but the concept was changed due to over 200 suggestions received. Visitors had the chance to vote for their favorite names using a QR code. Suggestions for the larger elephant included names like Kecker and El Phanto, while names like Kracker and Justus were available for the smaller elephant. The naming ceremony is expected to take place on September 15th.

Other events and activities

The next event in the series is planned for August 30th, between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the elephant toilet, and will have the motto “Watering is elephant fantastic because... there is really good music playing here”. Visitors young and old can look forward to the sounds of trumpets from Africa and Asia. There will also be informative contributions about endangered elephants and their protective measures. Anyone who wanted to win a small reward with their name suggestion could also take part in a competition where they could get their hands on cute plush toys.

The appearance of Mickey Mouse and Benjamin Blümchen once again showed how important such events are for the community, as they not only provide entertainment but also raise awareness of animal welfare. The commitment of the people of Giessen and the great interest in naming the elephants prove that the city and citizens have a knack for creative and child-friendly events.
