Nine of the trucks were so defective that their drivers were temporarily banned from continuing their journey. In this context, a total of 12,000 euros in security deposits were withheld. A striking example was an Eastern European transporter that transported nine cars and exceeded the maximum values ​​of 4 meters high and 18.75 meters long. A fine of 3,500 euros even had to be imposed here after two cars had to be unloaded.

Various security deficiencies

The list of deficiencies was long and revealed vulnerability management that is often not taken seriously. A vehicle transporter was stopped without the cars properly secured and with a defective trailer drawbar. Here, too, further travel was prohibited, along with the threat of confiscation proceedings for 2,000 euros. A driver from the Groß-Gerau district also appeared not to adhere to the regulations: defective lighting, inadequately secured cargo and cracks in the windshield are just some of the safety deficiencies identified. On top of that, in over 40 cases the driver did not have his driver card with him.

In another controversial case, a vehicle combination that exceeded the permitted maximum height was stopped. The driver had used someone else's driver card, a practice that not only has legal consequences but also endangers safety on the road. Here he had to deposit a security deposit of 5,500 euros.

Tragic side effects

However, in the shadow of these controls, a tragic incident also occurred: In Darmstadt, a 93-year-old was killed in a collision with a tram. This sheds light on the importance of road safety and how necessary such controls are to minimize potential dangers.
