Rüsselsheim in shock: barn fire caused by technical defect!

On Friday night, a fire broke out in Rüsselsheim in the Groß-Gerau district, which completely destroyed a barn in the Bauschheim district. According to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung Investigators assume a technical defect was the cause of the fire. However, clean evidence is hard to come by because the high degree of burns makes it difficult to pinpoint the cause. Evidence of arson has so far been ruled out.

Considerable damage was caused by the flames, which also damaged neighboring residential buildings. Eleven residents had to leave their homes and were temporarily accommodated in the Bauschheim community center. Luckily there were no injuries. A large fire brigade was on duty throughout the night and secured the scene with two patrol cars, while three ambulances were on standby as a precaution.

Evacuation and emergency shelter

The situation was not without consequences for other residents. Three residents of an apartment building had to spend the night in a hotel, while five other people were temporarily accommodated in the Haßloch fire station. These were taken to the fire station by bus; the remaining residents found accommodation with relatives or friends. The affected building with eight apartments, which was built in 1961 and is owned by a building cooperative, was then sealed for police investigations, with the recommendation not to enter the building for the time being. This happened due to possible health risks in the polluted stairwell, explained Jörg Wintermeyer, head of the city's fire department, civil defense and disaster control department.

Although the building was sealed, some residents returned to collect their personal belongings. The board of the building cooperative, Uwe Menges, showed understanding for this return, as people urgently need their things. The seal was broken on Monday morning and it was found that the apartments appeared to be undamaged.
