Hesse-SPD on course: local election campaign started with Hessen-Kompass!

On October 25, 2025, around 250 delegates from the Hessian SPD gathered in Stadtallendorf to prepare for the upcoming local elections. The party conference, which attracted a lot of attention, was dominated by the key proposal “Hessen Compass”. This document is intended to serve as a guide for the party in the coming months and addresses important challenges such as democracy, social cohesion and security in everyday life. The upcoming local elections will take place on March 15, 2026, and the SPD is optimistic that it wants to become the strongest force in Hesse's municipalities. Sören Bartol, the Hessian SPD leader, emphasized the central importance of municipalities for trust in the state and politics. This was also done by Dr. Josefine Koebe, the Secretary General, supported the fight for more financial resources for the municipalities.

Of course, the upcoming elections are also an opportunity for the party to reposition itself. Kaweh Mansoori, the deputy prime minister, spoke about the state's ability to act and the need to support the municipalities. An interesting aspect of his contribution was the cityscape debate that was initiated by Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU). Mansoori called for addressing real problems and finding solutions.

Election campaign in focus

During the party conference there was also a lot of discussion about the election campaign itself. Gert-Uwe Mende, Mayor of Wiesbaden, placed particular emphasis on the importance of social cohesion in the election campaign. The guest speaker Marc Herter, Mayor of Hamm, recommended that family policy be placed at the forefront of municipal decisions - an advice that was well received by the delegates. The debates at the party conference are a sign that the Hesse SPD is seriously responding to the challenges and opportunities of the upcoming election campaign.

After the intensive discussions, the delegates and guests had the opportunity to exchange ideas and network informally. These meetings promote cohesion within the party and show that the SPD in Hesse intends to go into the election campaign with a breath of fresh air. The anticipation for the local elections is noticeably increasing, and everyone involved agrees: the time for change is now.

Overall, the SPD-Hesse shows remarkable confidence and a clear plan to win over voters. The party conference in Stadtallendorf was therefore an important milestone on the way to the local elections in 2026 and provides clear impetus to actively address the challenges that the “Hesse Compass” addresses.
