Storm alarm in Hesse: violent thunderstorms and heavy rain are threatening!
On June 15, 2025, the low Xhevat will attract attention across Germany. Violent thunderstorms and heavy rain have hit Hesse, and the German Weather Service (DWD) has issued comprehensive warnings. The Fulda region and East Hesse are particularly affected. Fuldaer Zeitung reports that changeable weather with heavy showers and thunderstorms is to be expected for the next few days.
The forecasts indicate that thunderstorm activity may reach uncomfortable levels in the afternoon. In regions such as the Main-Kinzig district and Vogelsberg, stormy gusts and small-grain hail are possible. The maximum temperatures on Friday will be between 23 and 27 degrees, while at higher altitudes it can reach up to 22 degrees. The warning temperatures are the culprit that is causing the weather to change.
Storm warnings in Hesse
While the thunderstorms slowly move eastward over the weekend, the warning level remains high in many districts. Already on June 1st, strong thunderstorms in Hesse caused numerous restrictions. The Pride festival in Wiesbaden had to be temporarily interrupted due to the thunderstorm, while around 2,500 people took part in the CSD demonstration. [FR].
Entries of heavy rain with 20 to 40 liters per square meter cannot be ruled out, which could further aggravate the situation. In many places the weather conditions are anything but safe. The DWD therefore recommends that the population avoid spending time outdoors and secure loose objects well.
Future weather outlook
The DWD also states that after the thunderstorms move away from the northwest in the evening, the tendency for precipitation to decrease. From Monday to Wednesday temperatures between 8 degrees at night and up to 30 degrees during the day are expected. This extreme weather situation is not an isolated case: 30 degrees were already exceeded in Hesse on June 12, 2025. Hessenschau highlights that the heat record was set on June 15th in Kitzingen with 35.5 degrees.
The coming days promise constant ups and downs in the weather. It remains exciting to see how the weather conditions develop and whether the population remains well prepared. However, one thing is certain: the unstable weather conditions are a clear sign that you should always keep an eye on the weather forecast!
