Camping fever in Kassel: Bulli meetings and water games inspire!

A weekend in Kassel attracts campers from all over the country. The camping and mobile home site on Karlsaue and Fulda experienced a high volume of visitors. At the weekend, numerous families and couples came to the green metropolis, which is best known for its magical mountain park.

Karol Gabryel from Warsaw and his son used their stay to explore the beauties of the mountain park. “It's a shame that the water games only take place on Wednesdays and Sundays,” said the father regretfully. The water features in Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe have been in full bloom since May 1st and delight with historical water displays that are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Until autumn, visitors can marvel at the impressive water features every Wednesday, Sunday and on Hessian public holidays. Over 750,000 liters of water flow through cascades and aqueducts, without pumps, from the Hercules to the Great Fountain in front of Wilhelmshöhe Castle.

Diversity of visitors

While the water features attract many, London couple Stephen and Nadia Payne have already conquered much of Kassel. They have been enjoying the area since Friday and have visited the Fulda, the Orangery, the Hessian State Museum and the Grimm World. “There is so much to see and camping in the countryside is great,” they summed up enthusiastically.

It is particularly nice for families. Uwe Bley and Simone Rost from Jena visited their daughter in Kassel and treated themselves to fresh rolls and tomatoes by the water at the campsite. Of course, a detour into the Grimm world is part of it, which captivates the whole family.

This relaxed atmosphere continued at an annual Bulli meeting, which brought together participants from cities such as Hanover, Leipzig and Wolfenbüttel. Paddling, barbecuing and stand-up paddling were on the program. This shows that camping is not only popular, but also offers adventure and community.

Limited water features

The water features themselves, which have been presented to the public since 1714, have a special place in the hearts of Kassel residents. They were created in the early 18th century under Landgrave Karl and consist of impressive cascades and pools. However, there may be restrictions during the current season as repair work is necessary. However, as usual, all play stations can be visited, and visitors can look forward to the grandiose final production, which ends with a fountain over 50 meters high.

A few campers, such as Anna and Nina Thorwart from Würzburg, are on their way home from Sweden and have only seen a little of Kassel. But the city has much more to offer than you think at first glance.

The number of visitors to Kassel is not surprising, because the idyllic location on the water in combination with the impressive water features makes a weekend here a very special experience.

Whether water sports, relaxation in nature or cultural experiences – Kassel offers something for everyone. The anticipation of the water features and the relaxed atmosphere by the water attract many people. Discover the beauty of this region and the unique Wilhelmshöhe Mountain Park, which is a real insider tip for both locals and visitors.
