Heat wave strikes: Kassel faces extreme temperatures and thunderstorms!

The heat wave is becoming increasingly noticeable and is bringing extreme temperatures to Kassel and surrounding regions. The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued an official heat warning warning of health problems caused by increasing heat stress. This phenomenon is the result of hot subtropical air under the influence of high pressure and will keep residents on tenterhooks until Thursday, July 3rd.

Today, June 30th, temperatures are expected to be between 31 and 35 degrees. In the northern regions and at higher altitudes it could even be a little milder, with a maximum of 29 degrees. The nights are anything but cool, with temperatures not falling below 22 degrees, and in the mountains even just 13 degrees. The DWD warns that the heat warning applies from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., which means that the heat will be particularly noticeable during these hours. As early as Tuesday, July 1st, we can expect a temperature increase of up to 38 degrees in parts of Hesse. You should be particularly careful with these values because health problems cannot be ruled out, especially for risk groups such as older people or chronically ill people.

Unstable weather with risk of thunderstorms

But it's not just the heat that causes increased attention. As op-online.de reports, the weather in Hesse remains unstable. There is a risk of thunderstorms before the weekend, especially in parts of southern Hesse such as the Odenwald district, the Bergstrasse district or the Darmstadt-Dieburg district. Severe thunderstorm activity cannot be ruled out and you should keep a close eye on weather developments. The heat warning also applies here from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., which concerns the strong heat load up to a height of 200 meters.

Extreme heat will continue to prevail on Wednesday July 2nd, with the possibility of isolated showers or thunderstorms over the mountainous areas. Thursday heralds a change in the weather: The day starts sunny with temperatures between 28 and 33 degrees, but clouds as well as showers and thunderstorms, sometimes with heavy rain, are to be expected as the day progresses. On Friday night the temperatures will drop significantly and the heat wave is coming to an end.

Observe health precautions

The DWD emphasizes the importance of health precautions. Not only older people are particularly at risk, but also small children and chronically ill people. The heat can lead to serious health problems, so experts recommend avoiding direct sunlight, keeping your body cool and staying hydrated. Wearing loose clothing, avoiding alcohol, and eating light foods can be additional protective measures. It is also advised to go to cool places and consult a doctor in time if you have any health problems.

The coming days will be challenging, both in terms of the heat and the threat of thunderstorms. It remains to be hoped that the hoped-for cooling will be noticeable not only in terms of weather, but also in terms of health. Stay careful and keep up to date with the latest developments!
