Kassel Huskies shortly before signing goalkeeper: agreement with Eisbären?

The Kassel Huskies are in the middle of the summer break and are working intensively on clarifying their goalkeeper situation. On June 23, 2025, sporting decisions are now even more important because preparations for the coming season are already in full swing. The Huskies face the challenge of adding another goaltender to take the burden off Philipp Maurer, who missed last season due to injury.

32-year-old Brandon Maxwell is currently part of the goalkeeper team. He is no stranger to professional ice hockey and has first division experience, having recently played in the Swedish league in Malmö and previously spent two years with the DEL club Bremerhaven. However, Maxwell had a controversial exit there when he was considering a move to the KHL, which led to tensions with the team management. Despite that history, he is a valuable addition to the Huskies, but his fitness remains questionable. Maxwell is on the mend after a knee injury, but he is unlikely to play at the start of the season, as HNA reports.

The search for reinforcements

Sports director Daniel Kreutzer is leaving no stone unturned to strengthen the goalkeeping team. He is optimistic that an agreement will be reached with one of the potential candidates soon. According to FFH there are discussions with one or two applicants who could support the team for the first three months. The cooperation with the polar bears from Berlin, who are aiming to work with the Grizzlys Wolfsburg this year, could be important for the Huskies. However, the Kassel Huskies' cooperation with the polar bears is not affected.

Additionally, the Huskies are also dealing with the departures of Jerry Kuhn and Jake Kielly, who guarded the box last season. However, no departures have been officially reported so far. It is also unclear how the discussions about a possible three-way combination between Huskies, Eisbären and Wolfsburg are progressing, especially since U23 players can be loaned out by the DEL teams to any second division team at short notice.

Promoting young talent and upcoming tests

Another positive aspect is that the U20 national team will play two test matches in the Nordhessen Arena in Kassel. Those games against Slovakia on July 31 and August 1 are not only drawing the attention of fans, but also that of Clemens Sager, the Huskies' talented 19-year-old forward, who is expected to take part. The games offer an excellent platform for promoting young talent and strengthening ties with fans.

Overall, the outlook for the coming season in Kassel is dominated by the activities surrounding the goalkeeper position. The Huskies are looking for the perfect goalkeeper to further strengthen the team. How the situation will develop and whether they will be able to sign an additional strong support in goal remains exciting. The next few weeks promise a lot of movement in the Kassel ice hockey scene - we'll stay tuned!
