Complete enthusiasm: IHK Lahn-Dill selects the best trainees of 2025!

On November 7, 2025, an important event was celebrated in the Wetzlar town hall that honored the best training qualifications in the Lahn-Dill region. The Lahn-Dill Chamber of Industry and Commerce honored 60 test winners and 21 further training participants in a festive ceremony.

Dr. Felix Heusler, President of the IHK Lahn-Dill, and Dietmar Persch, General Manager of the IHK, presented the certificates to the successful graduates. Among those honored were seven who were among the best in all of Hesse, and one trainee was even honored as the best in the country. This is a great success for the region and shows the commitment and high quality of training locally.

Performance and diversity of training

In total, more than 1,000 participants took a vocational qualification or further training exam this year. This happened in around 60 different professions, which impressively documents the diversity in training. Melissa Storek from Giessen was recognized as the best trainee in the country. She completed her training at the service company Alte Lahnbrücke Wohn- unddienstegesellschaft mbH and achieved an incredible 92 points out of 100 in her exam.

There are currently 3,127 active training relationships registered in the Lahn-Dill region. This number shows that despite challenges, the industry still has great potential to integrate young people into the world of work.

Challenges and opportunities in training

The numbers speak for themselves: In 2023, over 690,000 people in Germany started vocational training like this Statista reported. The number of newly concluded training contracts was around 489,000, which represents a slight increase compared to the previous year, but is still below the level before the corona pandemic.

However, one major problem remains: many training positions remain unfilled. According to the DIHK, a main reason for this is unsuitable applications. The training occupation of plumbers is particularly affected, as it recorded the highest proportion of vacancies in 2023. To counteract this, the IHK offers support for companies in the region, for example in recruiting and using digital tools. Events for networking and knowledge exchange are also planned, including a regional forum on November 12, 2025 in Mönchengladbach.

The IHK is not only committed to training, but also to the interests of entrepreneurs. With over 80,000 companies represented, the IHK has a strong influence on the regional economy and is committed to facilitating bureaucracy and improving infrastructure, as shown in the Website of the IHK Mittlerer Niederrhein can be read.

Overall, it can be seen that training and further education in the Lahn-Dill region and throughout Germany are undergoing dynamic development. With a variety of initiatives and programs that respond to market requirements, positive developments are imminent - at least if the challenges can be mastered sustainably.
