Landscape protection in Nieder-Bessingen: 500 euros for bird protection!
Something is happening in Nieder-Bessingen! The Association for Landscape Protection and Landscape Management has set itself the goal of preserving local nature and filling it with life. On August 11, 2025, Finance Minister Professor Dr. R. Alexander Lorz about the association's impressive activities. The volunteers put a lot of heart and soul into caring for 60 fruit trees in an urban orchard and also show great commitment to bird protection by looking after eleven nesting boxes and three nesting tubes for tree sparrows and little owls.
“The work of volunteers is indispensable for our environment,” said Lorz, who warmly thanked them for their tireless efforts. The maintenance of the “Wüstung Hausen”, a church ruin from the 15th century near Lich, is also one of the association’s special projects. Here, history is not only preserved, but also kept alive.
Financial support for nature projects
To support this valuable commitment, Lorz is providing the club with 500 euros in lottery money. This year, replacing a garden fence on the club's property is on the to-do list. This measure shows once again how important it is to maintain the existing infrastructure so that nature can continue to thrive.
The challenge of protecting native bird species such as tree sparrows and little owls should not be underestimated. As the EMBA Vogelschutzbau team explains, native birds are not only valuable hunters of insects, but also indicators of changes in the environment. Their disappearance can be a warning signal of ecological changes. Due to the decline of old, rotten trees and natural caves, the need to install nesting boxes is becoming increasingly urgent.
Effective solutions for nature
The bow nesting boxes from EMBA offer optimal conditions for raising the young: They guarantee sufficient space, additional brightness, climate compensation for the breeding period and protection from enemies and moisture. In fact, these nesting boxes have already proven themselves in numerous forests, gardens and parks. The development of these innovations is based on the findings of the late bird protection expert Dr. Otto Henze, whose knowledge and experience remain alive.
In summary, the volunteers in Nieder-Bessingen and the support from the Finance Minister make a valuable contribution to protecting and caring for our nature. With a strong community and innovative solutions, the path to preserving local flora and fauna can be paved. A big thank you to everyone who is involved in these projects!
