A feast for the senses: Erlensee City Library celebrates 25 years!
On August 28th and 29th, 2025, the Erlensee City Library will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a big anniversary party. Under the motto “The word that connects,” the library invites all bookworms and curious readers to immerse themselves in a world full of stories. During the festive season, there are numerous activities on the program from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday that will delight young and old. Library managerSabine Fischerhighlights the importance of the house as an experience space that not only offers a high quality of stay, but also opens up many opportunities for exchange and further training.
The city library's extensive offering includes around 30,000 media, from books to audio books and magazines to DVDs and gaming. In addition, digital media can be borrowed via the “Hessen onleihe” with a user ID, which makes access to literature and information even easier. For younger visitors there are special offers such as Tonies, Edorino sets and the popular Kamishibai, a paper theater that stimulates the imagination. The support from the staff is also outstanding; The team currently consists of four employees, including a trainee as a specialist for media and information services, who are always ready to help with questions about media procurement.
Colorful program with fresh waffles and games
The festival will not only feature literary highlights, but also delicious treats and game opportunities. A special attraction are the bags donated by the city library's support association, which the children can paint with special pens on both days. In addition, the Anderwelt e.V. association will present board games and invite visitors to play along. Another highlight of the festival is the insight into the world of the blind and visually impaired, which will take place on Friday between 3 and 4:30 p.m. After an exciting day of play, guests can fortify themselves with fresh waffles and refreshing drinks.
In order to promote the joy of reading in the younger generation, there are still concerns about the number of books borrowed by children in grades 5 and 6. To counteract this, the library actively cooperates with daycare centers and schools and supports them, among other things, by providing book boxes. Readings with well-known authors and children's afternoons with exciting workshops are also being planned to introduce young readers to literature. On December 6th, the actress willClaudia Michaelsengive a reading in the Erlenhalle, which is already arousing great anticipation.
Encouraging numbers and new services
The numbers speak for themselves: the number of loans rose from 55,000 loans in 2020 to an impressive 64,000 last year, including an encouraging number of 475 new users who discovered the library. To make ordering even easier, a new media pickup station will be introduced that works similarly to a parcel station. This will certainly help to encourage even more people to use the library.
