Radio communication course in Salmünster: Firefighters fit for action!

An important course on radio communication is being held at the Salmünster fire station these days. Five emergency services from Bad Soden-Salmünster will take part from October 24th to November 1st, 2025. They come from the towns of Ahl, Kerbersdorf and Salmünster and are accompanied by two qualified trainers, including district trainer Matthias Sura from Salmünster. The organization on site runs like clockwork, and the participants can look forward to a well-thought-out catering offer, which includes a breakfast buffet as well as a tasty lunch, such as the gyros with fries on October 25th. The activities are supported by the district trainers Matthias Hummel (Ahl) and Thomas Beier (Sinntal).

But what exactly makes this course so important? Quite simply: radio communication is essential for fire departments and rescue services. It is not only used to exchange information, but is also crucial for alerting emergency services. This teaches you how to use the radios safely, which not only ensures safety at deployment sites, but also ensures that operations run smoothly. KFV-RSK describes the essential training objectives and teaching content. The participants learn, among other things, the legal and physical basics as well as various operating modes in digital and analogue radio.

Training and requirements

In order to be able to take part in this course, participants must have successfully completed squad training part 1. The training goal is clearly defined: The fire brigade should be able to transmit messages professionally via radio devices. According to BKS-Portal the course lasts at least 16 hours, although the exact number of hours can be extended depending on local conditions.

The training covers various theoretical and practical aspects, such as the operation of radio devices, the use of BOS cards and the fire brigade radio infrastructure. Another highlight is the practical training, which takes place in conjunction with the Rhein-Sieg district's command vehicle 2. The course ends with a written and practical exam to ensure the participants' learning success.

A look into the future

Those responsible have high hopes for the participating emergency services and wish them a lot of fun and success. The skills learned will not only benefit the individual participants, but ultimately also the security of the citizens in the region. A well-trained team that can communicate reliably in an emergency is invaluable to the fire department - something really big is happening!
