Marburg's new local curator Daniela Vogt: Insights into monument protection work!
In Marburg there is fresh news from the world of monument protection. Daniela Vogt has been appointed as the new local curator of the German Foundation for Monument Protection (DSD). She is succeeding Ulrich Althaus, who headed the local board of trustees until February 2025. This appointment comes at a special time, as the DSD is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. op-marburg.de reports on Vogt's new role, who, in addition to her role, is also passionate about bringing together art, culture and city history.
The DSD is not only active in Marburg, but also nationwide. With over 85 local curators, the organization is committed to monument protection and the preservation of cultural assets and monuments. Vogt's role as a representative and public relations worker is of great importance, not only for the DSD, but also for the local community.
Pioneer for monument protection and culture
Daniela Vogt, born in 1955, brings a wealth of experience to her new position. The qualified psychologist worked as a psychotherapist for many years, but also studied art history and trained as a stage painter and stage designer at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe. After her retirement, she actively volunteers in various cultural projects. Among other things, she works as a tour guide in Marburg and a set designer in the wagon hall.
She also founded the Azalay association and is its chairwoman. This is committed to preserving nomadic lifestyles in the Moroccan Sahara - a commitment that underlines their vision and passion for cultural diversity. Her motivation as a local curator is reflected in her quote: “History is not the past, it is also the future.”
Monument protection in numbers
The DSD has achieved considerable success since it was founded in 1985: over 7,500 monuments have been saved with more than 750 million euros. The DSD was particularly active in Hesse and supported more than 290 monuments with over 63.8 million euros. All of these numbers show how important the work of local curators is in preserving our country's cultural treasures.
The work of the local curators is scheduled to last three years, with the possibility of extension. They also have the opportunity to form their own local boards of trustees in order to advance projects together. This opens up exciting possibilities for the future development of monument protection, both locally and nationally.
