The new variant Nimbus
Another important point is the new Corona variant called Nimbus (NB.1.8.1), which has been discovered since January 2025. The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified this variant as “under observation”. However, there are so far no signs of more serious illnesses in connection with Nimbus, which supports the current optimism.
The vaccination rate in Germany is 76.3% for people with basic immunization. This makes good business in preventing COVID-19. But despite these encouraging figures, it remains important to continue to monitor the situation closely and not let vaccinations slide.
A look at the current data makes it clear: things remain calm, but there is no reason for complacency. We must remain vigilant because the virus has surprised us many times. Early signs of increases in new infections should remind us that the pandemic is not yet completely over. But at the moment we can be happy about the positive development.
