Big event in the region: Special Olympics start on June 23rd!
A look at the news from the region shows that there is a lot going on here again. The eagerly awaited Special Olympics State Games start in Hanau on June 23rd. This time the city is expecting a record number of participants: around 650 athletes, supported by 400 volunteers and 350 trainers, will compete in various sports such as table tennis, boccia and football. The opening ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. on the market square, and visitors can look forward to patron Diana Stolz and moderation by Julia Nestle, known from Hit Radio FFH. The event's motto is “I want to win, but if I can't win, I want to courageously do my best!”, which underlines the goal of inclusion and support for people with intellectual and multiple disabilities. Further information can be found on the city's website ( hanau.de ).
But that's not all the region has to offer. On the same day, the old town festival is celebrated in Steinheim, accompanied by a celebratory service in the old parish church. As part of the festival, the traditional St. John's bonfire is also lit, which once again illustrates the connection to local culture. Another highlight of the coming weeks is the summer festival at the Franziskanergymnasium Kreuzburg, which will take place on July 1st and 2nd and awaits both students and parents with various activities.
Current events in Seligenstadt
A rather tragic event recently shook the city of Seligenstadt. A half-timbered house was badly damaged in a devastating fire in the historic old town. Luckily there were no injuries, which is a small consolation in such a case. The fire department arrived quickly and was able to bring the fire under control. However, this was not the only challenge for the city: Due to acute damage to the transition structure, the right lane on the B43a is currently closed for a short time. The local security authorities are working to defuse the situation as quickly as possible. Further details can be found on the city of Seligenstadt website ( seligenstadt.de ).
The local population has also reorganized itself in the Seligenstadt hospice group, where a new board was recently elected. This shows a sustained commitment to the community. In addition, Seligenstadt commemorates the 1200th anniversary of the monastery and the 100th anniversary of the parish church becoming a “minor basilica”. Such celebrations not only promote community but also awareness of the region's history and culture.
transport and services
Another positive point in the transport sector is the introduction of credit as a new payment method for KVG Offenbach's on-demand service. This offers passengers more flexibility and could provide initial impetus for increased use of the service. The financial situation of the municipalities was also recently discussed at a mayoral meeting, where better financing from the federal and state governments was called for. The discussion about creating sound framework conditions for municipalities therefore remains acute.
So there are many reasons to look around the region in the coming days and weeks. Whether at events, established traditions or new developments in transport, there is something for everyone - so just stop by!
