Experience the future: Wuppertal's virtual suspension bridge for BUGA 2031!
In Wuppertal it will soon be possible to explore a breathtaking virtual suspension bridge, which is not scheduled to be built until 2031. This initiative is part of the innovative DigiTal Zwilling project, which actively involves citizens in urban development. The digital simulation shows the planned connection between Königshöhe and Kaiserhöhe in all its glory and allows users to experience the future bridge up close.
The virtual reality simulation offers an impressive perspective of the 850 meter long suspension bridge, which will be considered the longest in Europe once completed. The entire project is based on precise geodata from the city administration and is supplemented by drone footage that creates a realistic image of the area in digital space. Christine Pohl, the project manager at DigiTal Zwilling, emphasizes the importance of this simulation: It is an important tool for planning the Federal Garden Show (BUGA) and promotes the participation of the local population kommune21.de.
VR experience in the smart.lab
The virtual suspension bridge can be experienced in the smart.lab at Wuppertal Main Station, Döppersberg 37. The VR glasses are available here on Mondays between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. - without registration and free of charge. This gives citizens the opportunity to discover the city from a new perspective. “The simulation is a digital supplement to the real construction,” says Pohl. Benjamin Bleske, part of the project team, is also excited about the possibility of the DigiTal Twin actively integrating visitors into the planning process wuppertal.de.
Expanding the VR experience
In addition, the VR simulation will be offered in the BUGA Lokal, Kaiserstraße 4, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. from the beginning of September. Here, visitors have the opportunity to talk to local contacts and find out more about the project and urban development. The interaction and personal conversation should further enrich the experience of the virtual bridge radiowuppertal.de.
As part of the DigiTal Zwilling smart city project, such simulations are intended not only to promote citizens' perception of future developments, but also to show scenarios for sustainable urban development. The commitment of the population is of central importance here in order to work together on a better city. An exciting time lies ahead when it comes to rediscovering your own city virtually and actively participating in it!
