Felsberg launches initiative: strengthening civil courage against violence!
In the small community of Felsberg, the fight against violence and aggression is being tackled anew. Today the municipality joined the state program “Violence-See-Help” (GSH). The aim of this initiative is to increase citizens' awareness of civil courage and to promote early help in critical situations. Interior Minister Roman Poseck symbolically handed over the usage rights to Mayor Dr. Björn Faupel. This is an important step for security in the region.
The program includes a series of seminars designed to help participants recognize and effectively de-escalate violent situations. These training courses are carried out by specially trained multipliers who have a good knack for raising awareness among the population. Regular events are planned in Felsberg to ensure that citizens are well informed and prepared.
Crime situation and security initiatives
The security situation in Felsberg is impressive: with a crime rate of around 3,000 crimes per 100,000 inhabitants, the city is below the national average. However, it is important not to bury your head in the sand. Violent crimes, which make up less than 4% of all crimes recorded by the police in Germany, have a strong influence on people's sense of security, as statistics show. They include serious bodily harm, rape and robberies, which reached around 217,000 cases in 2024, the highest number since 2007.
Felsberg has also been actively involved in other security initiatives. The municipality has been part of the KOMPASS security initiative of the state of Hesse since 2023. As part of this initiative, a security and order partnership was established with Deutsche Bahn and the Federal Police at Gensungen train station. This shows that Felsberg is taking proactive measures to best protect its citizens.
Support from state initiatives
The “Violence-See-Helping” program costs the municipality nothing and is supported by the state initiative “Network against Violence”. This support is intended to enable Felsberg to build a strong basis for combating violence and promoting civil courage. Commitment to prevention will certainly help to improve safety in everyday life for citizens.
In view of the current social challenges, such as the increasing number of violent crimes, which, according to the BKA, can also be attributed to economic insecurities and social pressures, it is even more necessary to devote ourselves to the topic. The proportion of young violent criminals has increased in recent years and often goes hand in hand with psychological stress caused by various factors such as the corona pandemic.
In summary, it can be seen that Felsberg is taking an important step towards a safer future with the “Violence-See-Helpen” program. Together with other initiatives, we are working to create an environment characterized by moral courage and a feeling of security.
