Late summer heat in Hesse: outdoor pools remain open despite the change in the weather!

The weather in Hesse is currently looking its best. Today, September 20, 2025, people can look forward to late summer temperatures between 25 and 30 degrees. Meteorologist Martin Gudd highlights that it is very rare for temperatures to exceed 30 degrees on a September day. While the sun is shining, you can enjoy the last sunny days of the outdoor pool season. Because of the high “Oldenburgia”, which towers over the Alps and the Mediterranean, the weather conditions are ideal, even if low pressure areas are already forming north of Hesse.

It is particularly pleasing that the Langener Waldsee lido unexpectedly opened to visitors on Friday and will also be open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Other outdoor pools in Hesse will also remain open as planned, including the outdoor pool in Frankfurt-Hausen, the Rosenhöhe forest swimming pool in Offenbach, and several other leisure facilities across the country.

Outdoor pool season is coming to an end

The 2025 outdoor pool season is coming to an end, but the balance is largely positive. Despite the changeable weather conditions, which resulted in fewer visitors, especially in July, many outdoor pools enjoyed high numbers of visitors in August. For example, the Rosenau outdoor pool in Fulda, the largest outdoor pool in East Hesse, has had 107,400 guests since it opened on May 1, 2025, almost 10,000 more visitors than in the previous year.

The Lindenau-Bad in Hanau closed its doors on September 14th, but a very special day is coming up on September 21st: dog bathing day. The Kleinfeldchen outdoor pool in Wiesbaden will also remain open until September 21st, before the other outdoor pools are gradually closed.

A look at the weather forecast

Although the current temperatures are inviting, the first changes in the weather are already in prospect for Sunday. Gudd warns of the former showers and thunderstorms that could occur in the Hesse area from Sunday. In the following week the air temperature is expected to drop to between 10 and 17 degrees, which is a clear precursor to autumn. According to Gudd, a return to summer weather is unlikely, so the period of high summer temperatures could finally be over.

At a time when the weather is becoming increasingly inconsistent, it is even more important to provide such information. For further information on the subject of climate and weather, the Klimaportal Hessen can be consulted.

Despite the challenges of the weather, the outdoor swimming pools in Hesse made the most of the season and can now look back on a successful record. It will be exciting to see how the weather develops in the coming weeks.

For all those who want to enjoy the summer weather to the fullest again, the motto is: get into the water while it's still possible!
