Soroptimists donate 2000 euros for children's rights in Lauterbach!

On October 16, 2025, World Children's Day was celebrated with a special fundraising campaign. Soroptimist International Lauterbach-Vogelsberg handed over 2,000 euros to the Lauterbach Child Protection Association. President Imke Grünewald and secretary Sonja Seeger ceremoniously handed over the amount to Dr. Christine Kock, chairwoman of the Child Protection Association, which is involved in numerous offers in the area of child welfare. Particularly noteworthy is the “Vitamin Breakfast” project, which promotes awareness of healthy eating in three kindergartens.

But that's not all: the climbing wall at the Eichberg School was also put back into operation that day, thanks to the support of Naturfreunde Lauterbach, who financed the climbing equipment. The Child Protection Association also took over the training of four climbing helpers. In a world where children's rights are fundamental, this day shows how community and engagement can work together.

World Children's Day and its significance for children's rights

World Children's Day is celebrated not only in Lauterbach, but also nationwide. In Cologne, a colorful children's and family festival is expected in the city center on September 21, 2025. Numerous games, information stands and musical performances are offered in an area from the Chocolate Museum to Harry Blum Square. Participants can look forward to a visit from “Die Maus” and performances by the Cologne band Cat Ballou. It is a day dedicated to drawing attention to the importance of children's rights - an element central to a healthy democratic life. UNICEF emphasizes that entry to this event is free and everyone is welcome to take part.

The motto of World Children's Day 2025, "Children's Rights - Building Blocks for Democracy!", illustrates how important it is that children are informed about their rights at an early stage. A healthy democracy depends on responsible citizens who actively participate. According to the IBP Promoting children's rights is a key to a just society that follows the principles of the 1989 UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. This convention defines children as persons up to the age of 18 and establishes 54 articles intended to create standards for a child-friendly society.

The tasks of the child protection association

The Lauterbach Child Protection Association faces various challenges: In addition to helping with homework at the Eichberg School and the Angersbach Elementary School, the organization also deals intensively with the issue of children's rights. A “Children’s Rights” tour teaches the twelve children’s rights to people of all ages and thus promotes awareness of the rights of the youngest members of our society. School classes also receive support for their projects, which further strengthens the idea of community and solidarity.

At a time when children's rights need to be integrated into political decision-making processes more than ever, World Children's Day 2025 shows how important it is that children's voices are heard and their rights are respected. If we want to invest in the future, we lay the foundation by educating and enlightening our children - because they are the adults of tomorrow.
