An important step is emerging in the municipality of Kefenrod: the budget for 2025 has been approved. However, the result is rather mixed, as the budget ends with a deficit of an impressive 546,900 euros. According to reports from fnp.de The Darmstadt regional council approved the budget under certain conditions, including the requirement to compensate for the deficit by 2028.
Revenue for 2025 is estimated at 8.487 million euros, while expenses are at 9.03 million euros. A loan of 1.28 million euros is planned to plug the financial holes. Unexpected additional income from trade tax even reached 508,000 euros.
Budget details and savings
In order to reduce the deficit, a budget security concept is being planned that will close millions in holes. A sign of sitting at attention: From January 2026, the daycare bus will be abolished, resulting in annual savings of 40,000 euros. The subsidy for after-school care of 30,000 euros per year is also eliminated, which means further savings.
The municipality is planning several projects by 2028 to increase revenue. This includes a wind farm expansion, increasing the rent for community-owned land and the sale of ecopoints. In order to restore financial balance, it was also decided to increase the property tax B to 800 assessment points, but the increase to 975 points for 2028 is not being increased for the time being.
Investments in infrastructure
The investment program for 2025 provides a total of 1.829 million euros. Particular emphasis is placed on the renewal of water and sewage pipes, for which almost 1 million euros have been earmarked. In addition, construction work on Talstrasse in Helfersdorf must begin by the end of 2026. For the fire department, 660,000 euros are budgeted for new vehicles in 2026 and 2027. The merger of the Kefenrod district fire department with the Büdingen East operations department is also a further step towards optimizing resources.
The financial challenges in Kefenrod show that it is time to tighten our belts. With a clear plan and strategic cuts, the community wants to steer the course towards a more stable financial future.
