Culture festival at the Nidda high school: a journey through time through music and art!
On July 9, 2025, the Nidda high school celebrated an impressive cultural festival that took place under the motto “Time”. With the support of the committed students and teachers, a multifaceted program was put together that warmly welcomed visitors and invited them to take part. Headmaster Alexa Heinze emphasized the uniqueness of the school and made clear the importance of cultural education for the development of young people, as [FNP reports](https://www.fnp.de/lokales/wetteraukreis/gymnasium-nidda- Feiert-grosses-kulturfest-93826645.html).
The festival offered intellectual and creative stimulation through exhibitions, musical performances and performances. The fairy tale lectures and the journey through time staged by the “Performing Play” course were particularly impressive. The DaZ course contributed an important part to the event with the project “This is my time – about my life in my homeland and in Germany”. Here personal stories were conveyed in an appealing way, which captivated the audience.
Diverse program from science to art
The day was a successful mix of art and science. Visitors were able to discover exciting scientific projects, including weather measurements and the history of time measurement. The climatic challenges also found their place in the program, as pictures, posters and sculptural works on the topics of “time” and climate change were exhibited. Musical contributions from the school choir, the school band, the orchestra and the fifth graders rounded off the event and thrilled the audience.
The organization of the cultural festival was in the hands of art teacher and cultural officer Matthias Weidmann, who brought the various elements together with a lot of passion and a good hand. Particularly worth mentioning is the “Flying Artist Room” project, which was accompanied by Damaris Wurster. This will be dismantled in the coming weeks and relocated to Langenselbold, ushering in a new phase in the students' artistic education.
Pedagogical approaches and Fairtrade commitment
Erik Gebbert from the Crespo Foundation delivered a moving greeting and underlined the need for a creative learning culture, which is to be promoted as part of the “Deeper Learning Initiative”. This initiative strives not only to impart specialist knowledge, but also to strengthen interdisciplinary skills such as communication, critical thinking and teamwork - skills that are essential in a globalized and digitalized world, as the German school portal explains.
In addition, the Nidda high school has been recognized as a fair trade school and is actively committed to fair trade. As part of this initiative, students have the opportunity to deal with fair products and projects. The Fairtrade Schools idea pool offers numerous suggestions for creative actions and thus makes a valuable contribution to the further development of schools in this area, as described on Fairtrade Schools.
A highlight of the festival was the raffle, where guests were able to estimate the flight time of a weather balloon. Not only was knowledge about physical concepts imparted, but the sense of community within the school community was also strengthened.
With such a colorful and stimulating cultural festival, the Nidda high school sets an example for a lively school culture that offers children and young people a platform to be creative and actively engage with their environment.
