A serious truck accident on the A3 near Wiesbaden causes massive traffic disruptions and an impressive length of traffic jam. A serious incident occurred in the early hours of January 20th around 3 a.m. when a 51-year-old Dutch truck driver collided with a road maintenance barrier trailer parked there in the construction site area. This barrier was set up for marking work on the road at night.
The situation was extremely dangerous: the truck crashed into the trailer without braking, which destroyed the trailer. The collision was so violent that the truck's cab was severely deformed and the truck then crashed into the concrete barrier wall. Despite the massive damage, both the driver and his 40-year-old passenger were able to free themselves from the accident vehicle. Emergency services took both men to nearby clinics with minor injuries. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries.
Consequences for traffic
The result of this accident was a ten-kilometer-long backlog in the direction of Würzburg, which resulted in traffic delays for hours. According to hessenschau.de, the route from the Idstein (Rheingau-Taunus) junction was completely closed for around three hours. Police strongly recommended a diversion to save some time for those who wanted to use this route. The full closure was finally lifted after more than three hours, although rescue work was still in full swing.
The total damage from the accident is estimated at around 500,000 euros. This is not the first incident at this unfortunate location; A week earlier there had been a serious truck accident in which around 1,000 liters of diesel spilled onto the road. These repeated accidents raise questions about the safety and condition of the affected section of the route.
