Verdi's La Traviata: Emotional opera performance in Wiesbaden!
A cultural highlight is coming! Today, on October 29, 2025, the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden will delight with its production of Giuseppe Verdi's “La Traviata”. Directed by Tom Goossens, the famous opera will be performed in Italian, supported by German and English surtitles. This evening the audience can look forward to musical direction by Leo McFall, who conducts the Hessian State Orchestra Wiesbaden.
The stage and lighting design was by Bart Van Merode, while the costumes were designed by Sietske Van Aerde and Lena Mariën. Myriam Lifka's innovative choreography will ensure that every scene comes to life. Galina Benevich will star as Violetta Valéry, while Joshua Sanders as Alfredo Germont and Sam Park as Georgio Germont complete the ensemble.
Versatile team
The production of “La Traviata” is supported by a diverse team. The dramaturgy is handled by the duo Hanna Kneißler and Maarten Boussery; Max Nattkämper is responsible for the evening show management and assistant director. Musical assistance is provided by Tamara Lorenzo Gabeiras as well as Julia Palmova and Adam Rogala, who are responsible for the rehearsal. The choir of the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden will also be an important part of the performance.
Overall, the actors are well prepared for their roles - including Flora Bervoix (Aistė Benkauskaitė) and Annina, Violetta's servant (Petra Urban). Other impressive roles are taken on by Sascha Zarrabi as Gastone and Hovhannes Karapetyan as Baron Douphol. Doctor Grenvil, played by Jonathan Macker, also contributes to the dramatic depth of the work.

The combination of beautiful music, gripping plot and excellent performances is sure to delight viewers.
In addition to cultural entertainment, “La Traviata” also tackles deeper, thought-provoking themes. It is a timeless work about love, loss and social barriers. At a time when the topic of gender identity and the respective medical interventions is becoming more and more in focus, the work is not only a pleasure for the ears, but also an impetus for social discussions.
Just as opera offers a window into other worlds, there are also current discussions about intersex medicine and the need for informed consent that are gaining more and more attention. Intervention methods for gender dysphoria, ranging from surgical options to hormonal treatments, are accompanied by ethical issues and require open discussion and appropriate support for those affected.
The thoughtful choice of topics of “La Traviata” combined with the in-depth reflection on current social issues makes this performance particularly valuable. Visit the Hessian State Theater and experience not only the artistic performances, but also the conversation about important social concerns!
