Wiesbaden helps: Ukrainian children experience carefree holidays!

A welcome sign of solidarity is being sent in the city of Wiesbaden. On the occasion of the new town twinning with Kamianets-Podilskyj, the city is planning to visit forty Ukrainian children and young people aged 7 to 14 to enable them to have a relaxing time away from the war. Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende supports the project, which is scheduled to take place from July 18th to 27th, 2025. Many of the children involved have had stressful experiences and long for carefree days, far away from loss and constant threats. The mayor sees the project as worthwhile in order to give the children affected a bit of normality back and bring joy into their lives. Wiesbaden courier reports on the background of this action.

Kamjanets-Podilskyj, Wiesbaden's new twin city, is known for its impressive old town and friendly population. The town twinning was officially sealed on September 11, 2023 as part of a delegation visit from the Ukrainian city to Wiesbaden's town hall. Over the last 30 years, the two cities have repeatedly supported each other and organized numerous aid transports to promote local projects in Ukraine. The distance between Wiesbaden and Kamianets-Podilskyi is 1,601 kilometers, but the chemical connection between the cities is strong. A network of support

Other cities in Germany, such as Cologne, are also doing their part, for example through development projects in the areas of water and wastewater supply. daily news provides interesting insights into this development.

The planned activities for the Ukrainian children in Wiesbaden are a further step in this direction. The city wants to offer the children a carefree stay, with a focus on various leisure activities and cultural experiences. It takes a good hand to give these children a ray of hope through this special time and show them that the world outside of their war can also be friendly and welcoming.

Strong together

The major challenges in Ukraine have mobilized many German cities to provide support. Wiesbaden and Kamjanets-Podilskyj are an example of how town twinning has not only grown historically, but can also serve as a platform for relief measures in crises. It remains to be hoped that the planned summer activities will put a smile on the faces of many of the children affected and allow them to gain new strength.
