Ammerland Clinic: Huge new building starts in August – 234 million euros!

Something is happening in Westerstede! This summer, work will begin on building the new Ammerland Clinic, an ambitious project with an investment volume of a whopping 234 million euros. The focus is on a modern and sustainable design, which includes, among other things, a clinker brick facade and green solar roofs. The new premises, which are being built on an area of 11,500 square meters, are clearly designed to meet the needs of future-oriented healthcare. These include, among other things, 13 operating rooms, 176 nursing beds in single and double rooms and 42 intensive care beds. A new emergency room and a helipad at a height of 34 meters will also be included. According to [nwzonline]. Andreas Philippi is expected at this event.

The financing of the project is divided: 130 million euros come from the state, 50 million euros from the Bundeswehr, while the rest is provided by the Ammerland Clinic and the district. The clinic itself cares for around 80,000 patients every year and has established itself as a focus of care since it was founded in 1975. The goal of the Ammerland Clinic is to make the transition to a health district in Westerstede. This new building is part of a comprehensive “master planning construction” that was initiated in 2019 to promote urgently needed modernization. According to ammerland-klinik, new structures are urgently needed because the existing buildings are outdated and inflexible.

A look at the future

The surveys and analyzes show that there are significant weak points in the existing general wards. In addition, the maintenance requirements are high, which cannot easily be covered during ongoing clinic operations. A comprehensive renovation of the existing building structures is planned, which will be undertaken after the new building is completed. The focus here is on bundling diagnostic and therapeutic areas in order to make optimal use of resources.

Things will also be particularly exciting with the new parking garage, which is scheduled to open on July 21st. With 322 parking spaces, it offers enough space for visitors and employees of the clinic. The parking fees are extremely fair at 1 euro per hour and a maximum of 10 euros per day. There were originally delays in the construction of the parking garage due to changes to the facade that were necessary due to noise reports. But now things are moving forward!

Challenges in hospital construction

In a larger context, as data from PwC shows, German hospitals will need to make significant investments in buildings and infrastructure in the next few years in order to remain competitive. The old stock of many facilities is in poor condition; This can result in high maintenance and operating costs. In order to meet the challenges of the healthcare sector, the modernization of operational facilities is essential.

The Ammerland Clinic is well on its way to meeting these challenges and shows that we can also think big in healthcare! The planned opening of the new building is expected for everyone involved in 2028 and promises a modernization that will not only improve the clinic itself, but also the entire region.
