HSG Varel starts the mega-strong season with five new signings!
HSG Varel is facing an exciting new season in the regional league with fresh forces. Coach Arek Blacha has started preparing and is looking forward to the challenges ahead. After a solid fourth place in the last league season, which Blacha describes as emotional and full of highlights, the new season will be anything but easy. “The season is extremely strong,” says the coach and emphasizes that there are many serious promotion candidates and relegation fighters who want to assert themselves this year.
In order to start the season well prepared, HSG Varel has signed five new recruits. These include the left-hander Evgeny Vorontsov from OHV Aurich and playmaker Mohamad Sibahi from ATSV Habenhausen. Joel Hoppe from TV Schiffdorf, Joost Sanders from TV Cloppenburg and Johan Korsgaard, who comes from Aalborg Handbold in Denmark, also join the team. Blacha has clear goals: “We want to show good performances and get as many wins as possible.” The first training camps and test matches will focus on integrating the new recruits and forming a powerful unit.
Intensive training camp and Anker Cup
In order to build up the form, a three-day training camp is completed in Altjührden. The highlight of the preparation is the Anker Cup, which will take place on August 17th and 18th in the Manfred Schmidt sports hall. HSG Varel competes in Group A against well-known opponents, including OHV Aurich and league rivals VfL Fredenbeck. Blacha gives the starting signal with the first game on Saturday at 12 p.m.: “We are ready for a tough test.” The Anker Cup is another tough test for the team to prepare for the new challenges in the regional league, where there are three relegated teams from the third division as an additional complication.
Coach Arek Blacha also emphasizes the positive cooperation with management, media, sponsors and, last but not least, the fans, who contributed significantly to the success and emotionality last season. There is a lot in the air and Blacha has a good feeling for the coming season, even if he is aware of the tough competition. “Every place in the table will be fiercely contested,” said Blacha. “Our priority is to have a broad squad and avoid injuries.”
Benefit from the analysis
In this context, it is interesting that HSG Varel works with the support of Steazzi, a company that aims to make handball statistics accessible to teams. Founded in August 2020, the platform is based on the experiences of coaches from different countries and helps put the focus on players, games and strategic decisions. With this data availability, Blacha and his team can gain valuable insights that help them keep an eye on the competition and develop further.
There is great anticipation for the start of the season on the last weekend in August. The HSG Varel is relying on a breath of fresh air and will do everything in its power to inspire the fans with thrilling handball. The team will continue to work hard in the coming weeks to be ready when points are finally on the line again.
